Welcome to Titan and to the site. I'm Captain Zedo and I've lived on Titan for a long, long time. I've written this section to give new pilots a quick start to mastering the basic skills described in detail throughout the 112 pages on this site. I've also included which pages on the site you should read first after you've completed this section.

Titan can be a cold, desolate place with people shooting at you all the time if you don't play your cards right. I'm always getting asked how top pilots like Zero Cool, Ouch, Xaffax, and Nar Sluke can make so much money and seemingly do whatever they want in the game without any hacking -- just flying the same moths in the same world you're in. Well, in a word, the secret is practice!!

There is a little more to it than that. You could fly around forever in Titan without amassing millions or figuring out the plotline that will get you off Titan. The two keys to success in Misplaced Optimism are mastering the fundamentals and knowing how the economy of Titan works. This section concerns itself with getting you started in mastering the four basic skills that determine your survival and wealth on Titan: flying and targeting, evasive/defensive flying, dogfighting, and getting amnesty.

Flying and Targeting

This is nothing more than how to get around in your Moth. I remember when I first played the demo two years ago how hard it was to just exit the hangar I started in. A couple of tricks and a little practice have cleared up all of these problems. If you can't handle your Moth and find your way around, you're not going to be able to do anything but die on Titan. Luckily, flying a Moth couldn't be easier, especially if you use a joystick with a throttle.

Evasion and Defense

It's always more important to survive than kill an enemy. If you die, you die. Game Over. I've found a lot of my success on Titan has been in being a little conservative and placing good defense at top priority when things start to go against me. This section covers all sorts of flying tactics and counters to attacks.

Dogfighting

For most pilots this is what Hardwar is all about. You certainly can't get wealthy if you're a poor dogfighter. This section gives you the basic manuvers and tactics to kill your foe quickly.

Amnesty

You will peeve off various factions and independent pilots on Titan and they will come gunning for you. This section gives a brief overview of the major factions in Misplaced Optimism and how to get back on their good side after you've gotten on their enemy list.

Further Reading

This section gives an ordered list and links to other pages on the site. It's ordered to help you build on the basic knowledge you get in this section without getting too confused. There's a lot to Hardwar. The economy of Misplaced Optimism is quite complex and the pilots all have different levels of skill. Begin your study of this site by trying out these links first after reading this section.
